Izakaya; often described to the unfamiliar as ‘Japanese tapas’, actually refers to Japanese drinking establishments that offer casual plates of extremely tasty Japanese food, designed to accompany one’s beverage of choice. Sounds perfect you say? Yes! – it really is. This Japanese cooking class unravels some of those morsels of joy.

 

Izakaya style Japanese, the perfect introduction to the often intimidating and highly esteemed ‘whole other thing’ that is the art of Japanese cookery; or simply an important addition to your already established Japanese repertoire.

Here’s what’s cooking…

agedashi tofu [crispy silken tofu, dashi broth]

ocean trout tataki, sesame crust, pickled Fuji apple

creamy smashed potato and pickled vegetable

karaage (twice fried ginger free range chicken)

soy butter baked enoki mushrooms

gyoza, free-range pork belly & shiitake

dashi broth

charred sesame and garlic edamame pods

matcha green tea ice-cream (artisan product made off site)

Salt & Co. COVID19 arrival procedure:

When you arrive to your cooking class, your phone – if you choose to use it for photos etc during class – can be sanitised with the help of one of our team members. From there, any other other personal items that you don’t need with you during the cooking stage of the class can be set down in the Dining Hall as per usual. Upon entering the kitchen space head directly to a hand wash station and give your hands a thorough wash. We also ask that if anyone is feeling any cold or flu like symptoms at the time of entering the venue to please not enter the venue. We are applying this to ALL people entering our venue; customers, our team and all services.
